PHD NOTES: We have been working with AMS Performance & testing a prototype version of the G8x Heat Exchanger since mid-2024, and the results have been awesome. Consistent power at 750+ on track, even in 90-100*F summer days. Cannot recommend enough to any G8x that sees track use!

Maximum cooling. Maximum Performance.

Whether you’re doing laps at the track, making 200 MPH roll racing pulls, or just driving in a hot climate, the AMS Performance BMW G8X Heat Exchanger for the M2, M3, and M4 is engineered to keep your intake temps down and your power output up. Designed as a high performance, drop-in solution, this heat exchanger is the largest and most effective unit available on the market, delivering superior cooling capacity without the need for any modifications. The 3.0L S58 twin-turbocharged engine in your G8X BMW uses an air-to-water intercooler system, where coolant is used to manage intake air temperatures. While the factory setup may work under mild conditions and stock horsepower levels, it quickly becomes a limiting factor during aggressive driving — causing heat soak and reducing power. The AMS Heat Exchanger solves this problem with a 35% larger core and dramatically more efficient design built for enthusiasts who demand the most from their vehicle.

  • Largest Drop-In Heat Exchanger Available on the Market
  • Dual Pass Design with 35% Larger Core for Maximum Cooling
  • Robust Billet 6061 T6 Aluminum End Tanks
  • 16°F Lower Coolant Temps Than the Competition
  • CAD Designed and CNC Machined for Perfect Fitment
  • Drastically Increased Coolant Flow for Unbeatable Efficiency
  • AMS-Spec Core Fin Height and Density for Optimized Heat Transfer
  • Double the Fluid Capacity Over OEM Further Increases Thermal Stability
  • Direct Bolt-on Installation, Requires No Cutting or Drilling
  • Can Be Used on Stock or Modified Vehicles to Reduce Heat Soak

Engineered for Enthusiasts

AMS Performance is an engineering company first, and it shows in every component we design. While other heat exchangers rely on generic, low-quality universal cores and welded sheet metal end tanks, the AMS Heat Exchanger is built using a CAD-designed, CNC-machined billet 6061 T6 aluminum construction, and a custom core built to our fin height and density specifications. This ensures precise fitment, extreme durability, and clean OEM-level integration with your vehicle. Installation is as straightforward as it gets with direct bolt-on fitment using factory mounting points and no cutting, trimming, or drilling required for installation. Unlike other units on the market which struggle to be installed due to poor manufacturing tolerances, the CNC machined end tanks on the AMS heat exchanger allow it to perfectly slide in and lock into place. You don’t get a cleaner or more simple installation than that!

The Snailworks® Engineering Team at AMS Performance took their meticulous design approach a step further by carefully engineering the coolant inlet and outlet fittings with a unique radiused edge. This seemingly small detail plays a significant role in reducing pressure drop and promoting smoother, more efficient coolant flow throughout the entire intercooler system. By optimizing the geometry of these fittings, the team ensured that coolant can enter and exit the heat exchanger with minimal resistance, resulting in improved overall system performance. It’s this kind of precision and attention to detail that sets AMS products apart from the competition, proving that every component, no matter how small, is engineered for maximum efficiency and performance.

Size Matters.

Maximizing available space for cooling performance is no easy feat in the tight front end of the G8X M3 and M4, which is why the AMS Performance Heat Exchanger features a 35% larger core volume making it the largest drop-in unit on the market, without requiring any cutting or modification. At its foundation is a high-efficiency, dual pass, motorsport-grade design engineered to rapidly dissipate heat and meet the demands of high-performance driving. With double the coolant capacity of the OEM unit and significantly improved flow, the AMS Heat Exchanger dramatically increases thermal stability across the entire intercooler system. The result is lower intake air temperatures (IATs), reduced heat soak, and more consistent power delivery during aggressive driving, hot weather, or track sessions. Whether your G8X is stock or modified, this upgrade gives your S58 engine the cooling advantage it needs to perform at its best.

Track Tested, Race Proven.

The AMS Performance BMW G8X M3/M4 Heat Exchanger wasn’t just engineered in CAD and tested on the bench — it was rigorously validated both in-house and on the track. Our engineering and calibration teams ran controlled dyno sessions and street testing to evaluate intercooler air outlet temperatures under demanding conditions. To push the product even further, we collaborated with professional time attack racer Jackie Ding, who put the system to the test on his BMW M2 race car during Gridlife and Super Lap Battle competition events. Across dyno pulls, street testing, and real-world motorsport conditions, the AMS unit consistently delivered lower intercooler air outlet temperatures—recording a peak of just 112.8°F, compared to 116.4°F on the OEM system. Most notably, the leading aftermarket competitor actually performed worse than stock, with their temps climbing to 120.2°F. In a separate coolant-based evaluation, the AMS Heat Exchanger also demonstrated a 16°F reduction in coolant outlet temps versus the leading competitor, further validating the superior thermal efficiency of our design, from every angle.
